Applicants for the postdoctoral research scholarship must hold a PhD awarded not more than ten years earlier. The thesis must already have been published, and the new project must differ from the thesis topic. Doctoral candidates are not eligible for this scholarship.

The postdoctoral monthly rate is €2,760. The rate after a postdoctoral lecture qualification, or a post treated as equivalent, is €3,720. A family grant is €480 for one child under 18 and €120 for each further child. Travel and material aid are 'as required'.
