In short

The Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) takes bachelor's and master's students and graduates for research internships of four to six months. The Fall 2027 round runs from 1 October 2027 to 31 March 2028, and applications close on 15 April 2027 at 23:59 Japan time. OIST pays 2,400 yen per working day, a return flight and housing.

Who can apply

Nationality
OIST sets no nationality condition for the research internship, so a Tunisian student or graduate can apply.
Studies
In the last two years of a bachelor's, in any year of a master's, or holding a bachelor's or master's degree. Current PhD students and PhD holders are not eligible.
University approval
Enrolled students need approval from their home institution. Recommendation letters must come from professorial-level faculty.

Funding and what it does not cover

OIST pays an internship allowance of 2,400 yen per working day, one direct round-trip flight and furnished housing on or off campus, and helps with the visa. The application fee is 5,000 yen and is not refunded.
