AN INTEGRATED VIEW OF PERIODONTAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY: UNVEILING HERPESVIRUS–BACTERIA–HOST INTERPLAY IN PERIODONTITIS

EURAXESS hosting organisation · Multiple European countries

The PERIOVIR project aims to decipher virus–bacteria–host interactions involved in the progression of gingival inflammation, from gingivitis to periodontitis. ▪ Topic description: Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with bacterial dysbiosis, whose mechanisms of progression remain incompletely understood. The ANR-funded PERIOVIR project investigates the hypothesis that human herpesviruses (HHVs), particularly EBV and HSV-1, contribute to disease pathophysiology by modulating interactions between the microbiota and host responses. The project thus proposes an integrated view of periodontitis as a complex virus–bacteria–host ecosystem. ▪ Specific objectives: The PhD project will aim to characterize the role of HHVs and their interactions with the bacterial microbiota an
