Nationality / origin

With Tunisia selected as country of origin, the DAAD scholarship database shows a Tunisia-specific deadline (31 August 2026) for both programmes and lists the DAAD Regional Office Tunis as the advice centre.

Education

A master's degree or Diplom (in exceptional cases a bachelor's) by the start of funding; the most recent degree should as a rule be no more than six years old at the deadline. A doctorate already under way should have started no more than three years before applying.

Applications cannot be considered from people who have lived in Germany for more than 15 months at the application deadline.

Host supervisor

Individual projects need a letter confirming supervision by a doctoral supervisor in Germany; structured programmes need proof of contact with the programme coordinator.

Language

For a doctorate in English: proof no older than three years (TOEFL 550, TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, onSET B2 or PTE Academic 59). Language skills are also a selection criterion.

Funding and what it does not cover

Monthly payments of 1,400 euros, health, accident and personal liability insurance, a travel allowance (on application) and a research allowance of 460 euros a year; rent and family allowances may be requested after funding starts. German course fees and a TestDaF/DSH fee are also covered.
