Non-equilibrium self-assembly of a dynamic polymer exploiting an energy ratchet mechanism
EURAXESS hosting organisation · Multiple European countries
The primary objective of this project is to develop chemical fuel-driven self-assembled polymers. An energy ratchet mechanism will be exploited to populate a non-equilibrium self-assembled structure. A celi uses ATP and other thermodynamically activated molecules {GTP, Actyl-coA, ... ) as chemical fuel to performenergy-demanding processes such as tempora! contrai aver microtubule structures and directional motion of kinesin motors. lt is important to mention that the fundamental principle of these chemically fueled biologica I processes is to compensate the energy requirement of the endergonic process by using the free energy released from an exergonic process (such as hydrolysis of ATP to AMP and Pi). The kinetically stable polymer will provide a sophisticated synthetic mimic of the biolo
