The 2026 guidelines say applicants must be non-Chinese citizens. They do not name a country list and do not exclude Tunisia.

Tests and age
Age is 16 to 35 as of 1 September 2026, or up to 45 for in-service Chinese teachers. One-semester language tracks need HSK level 3 at 180 and an HSKK score, except the medicine and Taiji lines, which need an HSK score.

Recommendation
A recommending institution must recommend the applicant. HSK and HSKK reports are valid for two years. A recommendation letter from the head of that institution is required.

Funding and what it does not cover

One-semester students receive 2,500 yuan a month, tuition, housing, and insurance of 400 yuan a person. Master's and doctoral living allowances on the same page are 3,000 and 3,500 yuan. Those degree deadlines for September 2026 have passed.
