Study in Spain for Tunisians: admission, fees and visa 2027
The steps to study in Spain from Tunisia: qualification recognition, admission, fees and the student visa for the 2027 intake. Each point links to an official source we checked.
Study in Spain for Tunisians: where to start
Studying in Spain for Tunisians is a realistic plan if you take the steps in the right order: pick a level of study, get your Tunisian qualification recognised, secure an admission, then apply for a student visa at the consular section of the Spanish Embassy in Tunis.
This guide covers the 2027 intake (academic year 2027-2028). Fees, calendars and amounts change often: each point names its official source and the date we checked it, and anything we could not confirm is marked "to be confirmed".
Spanish dominates at public universities and some master's programmes are taught in English. Check the language and level required for each programme.
Opporiva is free. We never apply on your behalf and cannot guarantee an admission or a visa.

Bachelor's (grado): recognising the Tunisian baccalaureate and UNEDasiss
The Tunisian baccalaureate belongs to an education system outside the European Union. According to UNED, applicants from such systems without a reciprocity agreement must apply to have their diploma recognised (homologación) as the Spanish Bachiller. UNEDasiss, the UNED service that assesses international students' records, does not recognise diplomas itself: that is the job of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, and of some autonomous communities.
The usual steps:
- Apply for recognition of the baccalaureate. The file includes the diploma and a transcript covering at least the last three years of study (subjects, grades and years). Documents must be official, apostilled and come with an official Spanish translation, made by a sworn translator authorised in Spain or by an official translator abroad whose signature is legalised.
- Until the recognition is granted, your UNEDasiss accreditation stays provisional. Ask the university whether it accepts it and by when the final version is due.
- Depending on the university, sit UNED's specific competence tests (PCE) to raise your admission score. Without PCE, the score UNED calculates stays between 5 and 6 out of 10; UNED recommends taking at least four in a first application.
- Check whether the university accepts UNEDasiss accreditation: some do not use it, or use it only for certain profiles.
UNEDasiss accepts accreditation requests from February to November each year. The recognition fee and the UNEDasiss dates for 2027 are to be confirmed.

Master's: using a Tunisian degree
For a master's, the Spanish university usually reviews your file and decides on admission. The Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities says a declaration of equivalence is used to continue studies if the university requires it, so ask the programme first.
A declaration of equivalence recognises the academic level of a foreign degree (grado or máster). For grado level, the degree must be official, represent at least three years of full-time study (180 ECTS or equivalent) and give access to a master's in the country of origin.
You apply online only, through the ministry's e-office. Attach an identity document, the degree, the transcript or diploma supplement, and proof of fee payment. Tunisian documents must be apostilled and officially translated into Spanish.
Note: according to a ministry notice of 22 October 2026, the e-office of the General Secretariat of Universities is temporarily closed after a technical incident; pending procedures are suspended and deadlines extended. Check that it has reopened before you apply.
Homologación is a separate procedure, reserved for practising a regulated profession in Spain (medicine, architecture and so on). Processing time and the equivalence fee are to be confirmed.

How much does a Spanish public university cost?
At public universities, tuition is a public price set by each autonomous community. It is charged per ECTS credit; a full year usually has 60 credits.
According to statistics from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, published on 31 January 2025 for 2024-2025 (first enrolment in a grado), regional averages ranged from about 11.95 euros per credit in Galicia to 19.29 euros in Navarre. For a master's that does not lead to a regulated profession, the national average in 2024-2025 was 30.04 euros per credit.
These figures do not say whether a different rate applies to non-EU students, and fees for 2027-2028 are to be confirmed on each university's website. Private universities set their own fees, often much higher.
Also budget for housing, transport, health insurance, translations and apostilles.

Spain student visa from Tunisia: the file
A study visa is required for any study stay longer than 90 days. Applications are handled by the consular section of the Spanish Embassy in Tunis, which covers all of Tunisia. You first request an appointment by email (emb.tunez.cit@maec.es), then submit the file in person at BLS International, rue du Lac d'Annecy, Immeuble Adonis, Lac 1, Tunis.
Main documents listed by the consular section:
- national visa form, completed and signed, and a recent ID photo;
- passport valid for the whole stay (at least one year if the stay is longer than a year), with at least two blank pages and issued less than 10 years ago;
- admission letter from an officially recognised institution, and proof that tuition is paid or that you have the funds to pay what is still due;
- proof of sufficient funds (see next section);
- health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain, covering the same risks as the Spanish public health system, with no cap and no waiting period; travel insurance is not accepted;
- for adults applying for a stay over 180 days: a criminal record certificate from the countries of residence in the last five years, under three months old, apostilled and translated;
- a medical certificate under three months old, endorsed by the regional health directorate, apostilled and translated;
- proof that you live or study in Tunisia, which forms the consular district.
Fees: the visa page (dated 24 October 2024) shows 305.93 dinars for the visa and 57.45 dinars for BLS; the embassy's consular fee schedule for the third quarter of 2026 lists 307.88 and 57.81 dinars. Check the current amount when you apply.
The legal decision period is two months from filing; it can be extended if extra documents or an interview are requested. For stays over six months, the visa is valid for 90 days and you must apply for the foreigner's identity card (TIE) within one month of arrival, at the foreigners' office or the competent police station.

Funds, insurance and working while you study
The consular section requires funds equal to 100% of IPREM for each month of stay, plus 75% for the first accompanying family member and 50% for each additional one. These funds cover your stay and return; tuition must be paid or covered on top. IPREM is Spain's reference income index: the public employment service (SEPE) lists it at 600 euros a month in 2026. The amount that will apply for the 2027 intake is to be confirmed.
Evidence accepted by the consular section:
- a permanent, irrevocable blocked-account certificate covering the whole study period, signed and stamped by the bank;
- statements for the last three months from a foreign-currency bank account, in Tunisia or abroad, signed and stamped by the bank (online statements without signature and stamp are not considered);
- scholarship documents.
If your parents or guardians pay your costs, they must also sign a notarised or legalised sponsorship undertaking.
Work: Spain's immigration regulation (Royal Decree 1155/2024, in force since 20 May 2025, article 57) lets holders of a stay authorisation for higher education work, as employees or self-employed, without an extra procedure, as long as the work is compatible with their studies and does not exceed 30 hours a week. This right in principle applies in the autonomous community that issued the authorisation. Check the rule in force before signing a contract.

Frequently asked questions
How can a Tunisian study in Spain?
Choose a programme, get your qualification recognised (baccalaureate recognition for a bachelor's, a file review by the university for a master's), secure an admission, then apply for a student visa at the consular section of the Spanish Embassy in Tunis through BLS International.
Can you study in Spain for free?
As a rule, no. Public universities charge fees per credit, set by each region. In 2024-2025, regional averages for a grado ranged from about 12 to 19 euros per credit. The rate for non-EU students is to be confirmed with each university. A scholarship can cover all or part of these fees.
What documents do I need for a Spain student visa in Tunisia?
Form, photo, passport, admission letter, proof of tuition payment, proof of funds (100% of IPREM per month), health insurance with no cap, a medical certificate, proof of residence in Tunisia and, for stays over 180 days, an apostilled and translated criminal record certificate.
Do I need a blocked account for Spain?
Not necessarily. The consular section accepts an irrevocable blocked-account certificate, but also signed and stamped statements for the last three months from a foreign-currency account, or scholarship documents. If your parents pay, add their notarised or legalised sponsorship undertaking.
Can I study in Spain in English or French?
Most public degrees are taught in Spanish; some master's programmes are in English, and French-taught options are rare. Check the language and required level on each programme's page.
