In short

The Concours Jean-Pictet is a week-long, fully oral competition in international humanitarian law for teams of three students under 30. The 2027 editions are in Batam, Indonesia (English, 20 to 27 March 2027) and Lukenya, Kenya (French or English, 3 to 10 April 2027). Team applications close on 8 November 2026 at 17:00 UTC. The fee is 1,500 euros per team, and teams from countries facing economic difficulties can ask for support.

Who can apply

Country
The rules set no nationality condition: any university can apply, with up to three teams per country in the first phase. Tunisia is not an OECD member, so a Tunisian team may ask the Fonds de l'Universalité for support.
Team
Three students enrolled at the same institution, studying for or holding a licence (bachelor's degree) or equivalent, under 30, with good knowledge of public international law and no earlier participation.
Language
The 52nd edition is in French and the 51st and 53rd in English. An institution may send one French-language team and one English-language team.

Funding and what it does not cover

Selected teams pay 1,500 euros per team by 23 December 2026. The Fonds de l'Universalité can reduce the fee and contribute to flights, trains and visas for teams from countries facing economic and social difficulties.

Covered

  • Training documents and online training once the fee is paid
  • A possible reduction of the fee from the Fonds de l'Universalité
  • A possible contribution to flights or trains, a stay during the journey and visa costs from the same fund

You pay

  • The full 1,500 euro fee unless a reduction is granted
  • The full cost of travel: the fund never covers all of it
