In short

The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2027 are free to enter for short films from any country, in six categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, Immersive, Student and Future Format (vertical). Entries close on 15 December 2026 at 07:00 US Central Time. Category winners receive 5,000 US dollars (2,500 for Future Format) and Sony equipment, and shortlisted filmmakers are flown to the United States for workshops and the awards night.

Who can apply

Country
The official rules exclude no country and the competition is free worldwide, so Tunisian filmmakers can enter. Entrants under 18 need a parent's consent.
Film
A finished film released between 1 January 2025 and 15 December 2026, 5 to 20 minutes for most categories (2 to 5 minutes for Future Format), with English subtitles if needed.
Student category
The Student category is only for people enrolled in a diploma or degree-level film course at a registered higher-education institution.

Funding and what it does not cover

Category winners receive 5,000 US dollars (2,500 for Future Format) plus equipment. Shortlisted filmmakers get flights and accommodation for the awards programme. Entry is free.
