In short

Zindi runs this machine-learning challenge for the French Embassy in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi. Individuals or teams of up to four model how much ship noise is in underwater sound data from ten South African coastal sites. It is online, open to all, and closes on 13 December 2026 at 12:00 UTC. Prizes total 5,000 US dollars, and the winner is also invited to the ChangeNOW Summit 2027.

Zindi's rules say this challenge is open to all, so a participant in Tunisia can compete and win prizes.
Team
Individuals or teams of up to four. No new members can join a team in the last five days of the challenge.
Tools and code
Only open-source languages and tools are allowed. The top ten on the private leaderboard must send reproducible code within 48 hours.

Funding and what it does not cover

1,500 dollars and a ChangeNOW Summit 2027 invitation worth 2,500 dollars for first place, 1,000 dollars for second, 500 dollars for third, and two 1,000 dollar awards for the best write-ups.
