Who this page is for

Tunisians planning to study, take an unpaid internship, volunteer or work as a language assistant in Spain for more than 90 days, especially for the 2027-2028 academic year. The student visa issued by the Spanish embassy in Tunis covers these cases. For study stays of 90 days or less, apply for a short-stay Schengen visa instead. Opporiva is free, never applies on your behalf and cannot guarantee admission or a visa.

Study: bachelor's (grado) admission

Old Library of the University of Salamanca

The Tunisian baccalaureate is not among the EU or agreement systems listed by UNEDasiss, so it follows the "other non-EU countries" route. You must therefore apply to Spain's Ministry of Education to have it homologated to the Spanish Bachiller; until that is done, your UNEDasiss accreditation stays provisional. For these applicants, the admission grade UNED calculates (out of 10) combines your baccalaureate average (60%) and up to four specific skills tests (PCE, 40%); without PCE it stays between 5 and 6, and UNEDasiss advises taking at least four. The accreditation is valid for two years and can be requested from February to November. First check that your target university accepts it. 2027 dates: to be confirmed.

Study: fees and scholarships

Official statistics from the Spanish ministry in charge of universities for 2024-2025 (the latest published) put the average first-enrolment bachelor's (grado) credit at public universities between EUR 11.95 (Galicia) and EUR 19.29 (Navarre), depending on the region, and a master's not linked to a regulated profession at EUR 30.04 per credit on average. A full-time year is usually 60 ECTS credits. These averages do not say what non-EU students pay: check the actual price with each university (2027-2028 prices to be confirmed). For scholarships, see our Spain opportunity listings.

Work, internships and after graduation

For higher education, the study authorisation lets you work without any further procedure, as long as the work fits around your studies, generally up to 30 hours a week; going over the limit can end the authorisation (Real Decreto 1155/2024). Work is in principle limited to the autonomous community that granted the authorisation. Internships that are part of your course, under an agreement and without an employment contract, need no other permit. After graduating, you can apply for a residence and work permit without a new visa, from two months before to three months after your study authorisation ends or you obtain the degree, unless you held a development-cooperation scholarship. With at least a bachelor's-level degree, Law 14/2013 also lets you stay up to 24 months to look for a job or start a business.

The regulation asks you to apply at least two months before your studies start. 2027 fees: to be confirmed.

Recognition of qualifications

For a Tunisian university degree, the declaration of equivalence (Real Decreto 889/2022) recognises a Grado or Máster level, for academic and administrative purposes only: further study where the university requires it, public-sector recruitment, and showing employers what your degree corresponds to. Minimum: three years full time (180 ECTS or equivalent) and access to master's studies for Grado; one year (60 ECTS) and access to doctoral studies for Máster. It does not allow you to practise a regulated profession; that needs homologation. At doctoral level, universities decide. You apply online, with an official Spanish translation and an apostille. 2027 fees and processing times: to be confirmed.

The embassy asks for, among others: the national visa form, a photo, a passport valid for the whole stay (at least one year if the stay is longer than a year) with two blank pages and issued less than 10 years ago, the admission letter, health insurance from an insurer authorised in Spain with no cover limits or waiting periods (travel insurance is refused), a medical certificate less than three months old endorsed by the regional health directorate and, for adults staying more than 180 days, a criminal record certificate less than three months old covering the countries where you lived in the last five years. Tunisian documents need an apostille and, where required, an official Spanish translation.

For six months or less, the visa covers the whole stay and no TIE is needed. Book early and carry your passport, visa and proof of enrolment.
