France student visa: documents to provide from Tunisia
For a French student visa, applicants in Tunisia build their file in two stages: the Études en France procedure with Campus France Tunisie, then the VLS-TS application on France-Visas and at TLScontact. This guide lists the documents checked on official pages on 23 October 2026.
France student visa documents from Tunisia: the short version
Preparing a French student visa from Tunisia? Start with this: there is not one file but two. The first goes on the Études en France platform and is reviewed by Campus France Tunisie. The second is the application for a long-stay visa that also serves as a residence permit (the "student" VLS-TS), prepared on France-Visas and then filed in person at TLScontact. Only the Consulate General of France in Tunis decides whether the visa is issued.
The VLS-TS is for adult students coming to France for higher education for more than three months. According to Campus France Tunisie, it is valid for four months to one year.
The key documents, based on the official pages consulted on 23 October 2026:
- your completed Études en France file and paid application fee (unless you are exempt);
- your enrolment or pre-enrolment certificate from a French higher education institution;
- the original of your prior enrolment agreement (accord préalable d'inscription), endorsed and stamped by the Campus France office;
- your original diplomas and transcripts, with French translations by a sworn translator, plus proof that you passed your current year;
- a passport valid for more than 15 months when Campus France books your TLScontact appointment, issued less than 10 years ago and with at least two blank pages;
- two recent ICAO-format ID photos;
- your France-Visas application number (format FRA1…) and the signed form;
- proof of sufficient funds.
The final list depends on your situation: the France-Visas visa wizard (assistant visa) produces it. Check it before your appointment.

Step 1: the Études en France procedure and its 2027/2028 calendar
Before applying for the visa, you must go through the Études en France platform run by Campus France Tunisie, which has three offices: Tunis (20/22 avenue de Paris), Sousse (15 rue Hamed el Ghazali) and Sfax (09 avenue Habib Bourguiba).
The calendar published for the 2027/2028 academic year sets these milestones:
- create and fill in your online file from 1 October 2026;
- submit the file and pay by 11 December 2026 for DAP applications (first year of a licence, L.AS / PASS, architecture schools);
- submit and pay by 18 December 2026 for non-DAP applications (BUT, second and third year of a licence, professional licence, master's, engineering and business schools);
- interview at the Campus France office by 15 March 2027;
- institutions' answers by 30 April 2027;
- final choice no later than 31 May 2027.
BTS, CPGE and DCG go through Parcoursup, and art schools through CampusArt. Doctoral study and work-study (alternance) have their own rules, explained on the Campus France Tunisie website. Once admitted through one of these routes, you follow the "Je suis accepté" procedure, with an interview usually within one to four weeks depending on the time of year.
The Campus France application fee is 400 TND since 1 August 2025 (the amount in force on 23 October 2026). You pay by bank card at the Campus France office or online through the Institut français de Tunisie portal, after submitting your file. Cheque payments have been suspended since 20 January 2025, and postal applications are no longer accepted.

Already admitted outside the platform: the "Je suis accepté" procedure
If a French institution admitted you directly, without the platform, you still have to follow the "Je suis accepté" procedure before the visa. Campus France Tunisie says you must:
- create a single Études en France account, or reuse your old one (duplicate files are not allowed);
- upload your pre-enrolment in the "Projet d'études" section, with legible documents in French;
- pay the 400 TND fee after submitting your file;
- have the host institution confirm your admission by writing to Campus France Tunisie's authentication address: without that confirmation, the file cannot be sent to the Consulate.
Note: a pre-enrolment in the first year of a licence or in an architecture school at a public institution, obtained outside the Études en France campaign (the DAP procedure), will not be processed by Campus France Tunisie.
According to the same page, scholarship holders (with a certificate stating the exact amount and length of the award) and holders of a French baccalauréat less than four years old admitted through Parcoursup are exempt from the fee and the interview. Exchange-programme students do pay the fee; Campus France decides whether an interview is needed.
Campus France advises starting two to three months before classes begin, especially in summer.

Documents to bring to the Campus France interview
Once your payment is confirmed, an adviser offers you an interview date through your file's messaging. Arrive 30 minutes early with:
- your ID;
- the notice of interview printed from your online file;
- your pre-enrolment certificate;
- the originals of your transcripts and diplomas, even if they are in Arabic, with their French translations: from the second year of secondary school if you have not yet completed two years of higher education, from the baccalauréat otherwise.
Translations must be made by a sworn translator on the list drawn up by the French Embassy in Tunisia. Arriving late or missing a document cancels the interview, and a candidate who misses the interview must pay 100 TND for a second appointment.
In the "Je suis accepté" procedure, the adviser stamps your prior enrolment agreement after the interview. In the "Je suis candidat" procedure, this endorsement comes after your final choice: you return to the Campus France office with the copy of the agreement printed from your account, all your originals and proof that you passed your current year. According to Campus France Tunisie, a visa application filed without this check will be refused or not processed by the Consulate.
The agreement is stamped only once. Keep the original: it is part of the visa file you hand in at TLScontact.

Step 2: the VLS-TS visa file on France-Visas and at TLScontact
After your final choice, the visa application works like this, according to Campus France Tunisie and France-Visas:
- create an account on France-Visas and complete the long-stay "student" visa form; you receive a reference number in the format FRA1… that you give to Campus France;
- upload digital copies of your supporting documents on France-Visas (possible since 7 April 2021);
- go to the Campus France office with a passport valid for more than 15 months: it books your TLScontact appointment (mandatory since 1 May 2022), and its role ends there;
- on the day, hand in your passport and signed form in person, together with the original stamped prior enrolment agreement; the provider also takes your fingerprints and photo;
- then track your application on the service provider's website and collect your passport.
France-Visas also requires a passport issued less than 10 years ago, with at least two blank pages and valid for at least three months after the requested visa expires, plus two recent ICAO-format ID photos. For housing, give either a temporary address for your first three months or your permanent address. The exact form of the supporting documents (accommodation, insurance and so on) is to be confirmed in the France-Visas visa wizard.
As for costs, on 23 October 2026 France-Visas shows an indicative fee of €50 for countries using the Études en France procedure, including Tunisia; special cases may differ, and the fee is not refunded if the visa is refused. TLScontact's service fee comes on top: France-Visas caps it at €45 per application, and the exact amount is to be confirmed on the TLScontact website. A second TLScontact appointment costs an extra 100 TND.

Proof of funds: how much do you need to show?
For a first "student" VLS-TS application, Service-Public.fr (page verified by the administration on 1 August 2026) states that you must show resources of at least €877.50 per month. This condition does not apply if you passed the entrance competition of an institution that has signed an agreement with the State.
Older documents may still quote a lower amount: rely on the figure shown by Service-Public.fr and France-Visas on the day you apply. The France-Visas FAQ defines proof of funds as evidence of sufficient means for the whole stay.
The accepted form of this proof for a student visa from Tunisia (scholarship certificate, sponsorship, bank statements, blocked account and so on) is to be confirmed in the France-Visas visa wizard. If you hold a scholarship, the certificate must state its exact amount and length; according to Campus France Tunisie, it also exempts you from the application fee and the interview.

Processing times, refusals and validating the visa on arrival
Campus France Tunisie gives a processing time of 15 to 45 days after filing at TLScontact, in line with France-Visas (usually 15 days, up to 45 in some cases). Campus France cannot explain or change a refusal.
According to France-Visas, a long-stay visa refusal can be challenged within 30 days through a written appeal in French, reasoned and signed, sent by post to the Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa (CRRV) in Nantes. Campus France Tunisie's page on refusals still mentions two months: if in doubt, meet the shorter deadline. You can also apply again for the same project: a new TLScontact appointment through Campus France then costs 100 TND, with no new interview.
Once in France, you must validate your VLS-TS online at administration-etrangers-en-france.interieur.gouv.fr within three months of arrival. Have ready your email address, the visa details, your entry date, your address in France and a means of payment. Service-Public.fr shows a €100 tax payable at validation (amount displayed on 23 October 2026); Campus France Tunisie's page on validation still quotes €50, so check the amount shown on the portal when you pay. Without a bank card, you can buy an electronic stamp at a tobacconist.
Without validation, your stay becomes irregular and you lose the rights attached to the VLS-TS. After the first three months, if you leave France without having validated your visa, you will need a new visa from the Consulate General of France in Tunis to come back.

Our tips for a complete file
A few habits that save repeat trips:
- check your passport's expiry date in the autumn: if it will not be valid for more than 15 months when Campus France books your TLScontact appointment, renew it first;
- order sworn translations of your diplomas and transcripts early;
- keep a digital and a paper copy of every document, plus the original stamped prior enrolment agreement;
- prepare your proof of funds before your final choice so you can apply for the visa without delay;
- look at scholarships open to Tunisian students: according to Campus France Tunisie, scholarship holders are exempt from the application fee and the interview.
