PFE internship in France for Tunisian students: the complete guide
A final-year (PFE) internship in France is mostly an administrative project: a three-party agreement, approval by the French authorities at least two months before the start, then the right visa for the length of stay. This guide sets out the steps checked on official pages on 23 October 2026.
PFE internship in France for Tunisian students: the essentials
Planning your final-year project and searching for a PFE internship in France for Tunisian students? Keep one idea in mind: finding a company is only half the work. The other half is getting the internship agreement and the visa done on time. A four- to six-month PFE in France usually lasts more than three months, which triggers a long-stay procedure with an agreement approved by the French authorities.
The key points, based on official pages consulted on 23 October 2026:
- if you remain enrolled at your Tunisian institution, you do not go through the Campus France procedure; you apply for the visa directly with TLScontact;
- for more than three months, the host company must have the agreement approved at least two months before the internship starts;
- if the authorities do not answer within 30 days, the approval request counts as refused;
- a company internship cannot exceed six months;
- you must show at least €615 a month in resources (amount given on the Service-Public page checked on 1 June 2026).
Opporiva is free and never applies on your behalf: this guide helps you understand the steps, and the final decision belongs to the company and the consulate.

Who does what: you, your school, the company and Campus France
Campus France Tunisia states it plainly: it does not offer internships and plays no part in the procedures for obtaining them. Finding the internship and getting the agreement is your responsibility.
Campus France Tunisia separates two cases:
- you are enrolled at a Tunisian institution and are going to France for your internship: no Campus France procedure is required, you go directly to TLScontact, and official information is on the websites of France-Visas, TLScontact and the French Consulate in Tunis;
- you have been admitted to a French institution and the internship is part of that programme: you then follow the “Je suis accepté” procedure on Études en France, with an interview and an application fee shown as 400 TND on 23 October 2026 (the amount for the 2027 intake is to be confirmed), and you apply for a long-stay student visa.
Most PFE placements fall into the first case. Your Tunisian school or university signs the agreement, your academic supervisor follows the project, and the French company handles the administrative approval in France. Your institution's own rules (minimum length, agreement template, final defence) must be checked with its internship office.

The three-party internship agreement and its approval in France
For a non-EU intern, the agreement is signed by you, your training institution abroad and the host company in France. It does not give you employee status. The internship must be part of a programme followed in your country of residence that leads to a diploma, which is normally the case for a PFE.
The approval, step by step, according to Service-Public (page checked on 1 June 2026):
- the company files the request at least 2 months before the internship starts, or 1 month if the internship belongs to a European or intergovernmental cooperation programme;
- it can do so by registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt to the prefecture, or online;
- online, the request goes through the section “Je demande une autorisation de travail”, then “Je sollicite un avis sur une convention de stage” (page checked on 27 April 2026);
- if approved, the stamped agreement is sent to you before you enter France;
- if the authorities do not answer within 30 days (15 days for a cooperation programme), the request is refused.
In practice, the French company needs to know about this step. Many small firms have never hosted a Tunisian intern: send them the official link as soon as they agree in principle, so they do not discover the procedure too late.

Which visa for a PFE in France: short stay or VLS-TS trainee
The visa type depends on the length of the internship.
- Internship of less than 3 months: you apply for a short-stay visa, under a different procedure.
- Internship of more than 3 months: once the agreement is stamped, you apply for a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit (VLS-TS) marked “stagiaire” with the French authorities in your country of residence. In Tunisia, Campus France Tunisia says the application is filed at TLScontact.
Documents listed by Service-Public for the trainee VLS-TS:
- a valid passport;
- the three-party agreement, stamped by the authorities and signed by all parties;
- proof of resources (at least €615 a month, amount from the page checked on 1 June 2026);
- proof of accommodation in France.
The VLS-TS means you do not need to apply for a residence card, but OFII may call you in after arrival, for example for a medical check. According to the Service-Public page on long-stay visas (checked on 9 October 2026), every VLS-TS must also be validated online within 3 months of arrival, with a tax added to the visa fees; the amount for 2027 is to be confirmed. Visa fees vary by country: the amount for Tunisia in 2027 is to be confirmed on France-Visas. The exact document list is generated by France-Visas for your situation and should be checked before your appointment.
If the internship is extended, the company must have an amendment approved; an accepted amendment costs €150 in tax stamps and leads to a temporary “stagiaire” residence card (amount from the page checked on 1 June 2026).

Stipend, length and intern rights
In France, an internship of more than two consecutive months in the same academic year, or, for a non-continuous internship, from the 309th hour, carries a minimum stipend (gratification). According to the page checked on 1 January 2026, it is €4.50 per hour, which is 15% of the hourly Social Security ceiling (€30). The ceiling is revised every 1 January, so the amount for a 2027 PFE is to be confirmed. The stipend is paid monthly, not at the end of the internship.
Service-Public states that EU and EEA nationals have the same rights as a French intern, but the page does not cover other nationalities. For an agreement signed with a Tunisian institution, whether this minimum applies is to be confirmed with the company before signing. Have the amount written into the agreement.
Other rules set out on the employer page (checked on 1 January 2026). As with the stipend, whether they apply to an agreement with a Tunisian institution is to be confirmed, except the six-month limit, which the page on foreign interns also sets:
- one host organisation cannot take you for more than six months per academic year;
- the agreement names an academic supervisor and a company tutor, who can follow no more than three interns at once;
- beyond two months, the agreement must set out leave and absences;
- you can use the staff canteen or meal vouchers, and get partial travel cost reimbursement, on the same terms as employees.

Suggested timeline for a spring 2027 PFE
PFE dates vary from school to school. The timeline below is an example worked out from the official deadlines, for an internship starting in early February 2027. Adjust it to your own dates.
- October to November 2026: applications and interviews, written agreement in principle from the company.
- By early December 2026 at the latest: agreement signed by all three parties and approval request filed by the company (two months before the start).
- December 2026 to January 2027: wait for the answer (30 days at most before an implicit refusal), then prepare the France-Visas file and the TLScontact appointment.
- February 2027: arrival and start of the internship, then online VLS-TS validation within 3 months and OFII formalities if you are called in.
If your internship starts later, shift each step by the same amount. Keep a buffer: an incomplete file, a passport to renew or an agreement to correct can cost several weeks.

How to find a PFE internship in France from Tunisia
There is no single official platform that assigns PFE placements to Tunisian students. The most realistic routes are:
- your school or university's partnerships with French laboratories, schools and companies;
- structured programmes such as IAESTE, which places engineering students in technical internships abroad;
- international organisations based in France, such as the OECD or UNESCO in Paris, whose eligibility rules must be checked for each offer;
- targeted speculative applications to research laboratories and companies in your field.
For each application, send a one-page CV adapted to the French market, a short letter giving the PFE dates, length and proposed topic, and one sentence explaining that your Tunisian institution will sign the agreement. Mention the administrative approval from the start: a company informed early is a company that will not hold up your file at the last minute.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Thinking Campus France approves the agreement: the French authorities stamp it, at the host company's request.
- Signing too late: inside the two-month window, the approval request may not come through in time.
- Forgetting that silence means refusal: follow up with the company if no answer arrives within 30 days.
- Choosing an internship of more than six months with the same host: this is not allowed.
- Overlooking resources: the €615 monthly minimum must be proven, even if a stipend is planned.
- Forgetting to validate the VLS-TS online within 3 months of arrival.
- Paying an intermediary who promises an internship or a visa: there is no guarantee, only the company and the consulate decide.
Before filing, reread the official pages cited in this guide: the rules can change from one year to the next.
