Check eligibility

In short

UK government scholarships for a one-year master’s in the UK. The official Tunisia page now states that applications for 2027–2028 are closed (deadline 6 October 2026); 2028–29 dates are to be confirmed. Apply on Chevening’s system, not through Opporiva.

Who can apply

Nationality
Must apply via a participating country/territory page. Tunisia has a Chevening country page. Other nationality rules are on Chevening’s eligibility pages.
Education
Chevening funds a one-year taught master’s. Published rules: an undergraduate degree that gives access to a UK master’s; for the current cycle, undergraduate studies must have been finished by October 2024 (the degree certificate is needed by the interview); at least 2,800 hours of work experience after the degree; apply to three eligible UK courses and hold an unconditional offer from one of them by the timeline deadline (8 July 2027, 17:00 BST for 2027/28); return to the country of award for at least two years after the scholarship.
Residence
If the country of award is ODA-eligible, Chevening requires residence in an ODA-eligible country. Check this rule if you live outside Tunisia.
Age
Chevening states that there is no upper age limit (checked 23 Oct 2026).

Funding and what it does not cover

Fully funded (2027-28 cycle); monthly amount not publishedAmount checked on 23 October 2026

According to the Chevening pages checked on 23 October 2026, the scholarship fully funds a one-year master's at a UK university. The official FAQ lists what is paid. The monthly living allowance depends on whether you study in London or elsewhere and is reviewed every year, but no amount is published on those pages. The only figure given is a contribution of up to £75 towards a TB test where one is required. The FAQ does not say which cycle these terms apply to, so check your award letter.

Covered

  • Master's tuition fees
  • Economy return travel between your country of residence and the UK by an approved route (scholar only)
  • Arrival allowance (amount to be confirmed)
  • Visa application fee (scholar only)
  • Departure allowance (amount to be confirmed)
  • Up to £75 towards a TB test, where required (FAQ figure checked on 23 October 2026; cycle not stated)
  • Travel top-up allowance (amount to be confirmed)
  • Monthly living allowance, with a London and a non-London rate (2027-28 amounts to be confirmed)

You pay

  • Travel and visa costs for family members: the FAQ says these items cover the scholar only
  • Other costs for dependants: no support is mentioned (to be confirmed with Chevening)

How to apply

  1. Check that you are eligible

Citizenship of an eligible country (Tunisia has a country page), an undergraduate degree that gives access to a UK master's, at least two years of work experience gained after that degree (2,800 hours), and a commitment to return to your country of award for at least two years after the scholarship. For the 2027-28 cycle your undergraduate studies had to be finished by October 2024; the certificate itself must be in hand by the interview. If you live outside Tunisia, check the residence rule: for an ODA-eligible country of award, Chevening requires you to live in an ODA-eligible country.

  2. Pick three master's courses

Choose three different eligible one-year courses at UK universities and apply to the universities directly.

  3. Complete the online form while the round is open

For 2027-28 the window ran from 4 August to 6 October 2026, closing at 11:00 UTC (dates published by the UK government for this cycle); the Tunisia page now says applications are closed. The 2028-29 dates are to be confirmed; follow Chevening's Tunisia page.

  4. Work on your essays

Answers to the questions are written directly in the online form. We suggest drafting them early and revising them more than once.

  5. Prepare for the interview if shortlisted

In the 2027-28 cycle the interview shortlist is announced in mid-February 2027 and interviews run from March to April 2027 at British embassies. Photo ID, your undergraduate certificate and your reference letters must be uploaded at least seven working days before the interview.

  6. Secure an unconditional offer

You must hold an unconditional offer from at least one of your three choices by 8 July 2027, 17:00 UK time, for the 2027-28 cycle.

  7. Wait for results and plan your move

Results come out from mid-June 2027 and studies start in September or October 2027. Opporiva never applies on your behalf.

Documents to prepare

  • Completed online form, including your essay answers (no documents are needed to submit)
  • Official degree certificate issued by your university (original requested after shortlisting)
  • Academic transcripts (to be confirmed in Chevening's guidance)
  • Details of your work periods (up to fifteen entries)
  • Reference letters, uploaded before the interview (number to be confirmed)
  • Unconditional offer from at least one of your three universities
  • Photo ID, uploaded before the interview (type of document to be confirmed)
  • English test certificate if your university requires one

From Tunisia

You apply online only, through the Tunisia page on Chevening's website: no paper file goes to the British Embassy in Tunis. The embassy comes in later, since British embassies shortlist candidates and hold the interviews; it also shares news through its UK in Tunisia accounts. For the 2027-28 cycle the Tunisia page says applications are closed, and dates for the next round are not published yet. On documents, Chevening says academic papers do not need an English translation, but it asks for the original degree certificate issued by your university. UK universities may still ask for translations, so check with each one before paying for a sworn translation. Chevening dropped its own English requirement in 2020, yet every university sets a minimum level. Because the offer must be unconditional, it is wise to sit your English test early. Common mistakes: counting internships done during your studies when only hours after graduation count, choosing courses that are not eligible, leaving the form until the final day, and holding an offer that still depends on an English score.
